Obama's Pastor....you are the company you keep

March 17, 2008 / by chopsui101

Over the past few days, I have been loosely following the Obama's Pastoral troubles. While he says that he went to the minister for spiritual advice not political, others, would beg to differ, I would have to agree that this is true, that we should not pass judgment on Mr. Obama for Mr. Reverend White's actions.

However, that raises the question, why? After listening to Mr. White, rant and rave for several minutes I don't understand why anyone, especially a man who is running a color blind campaign would listen to Mr. White. His sermon was all about hate, anti semitic, and racist against every other color but black.

Mr. White, in his sermon, consistently blasts the rich white man. He twists the Bible texts around to match his screwed sense of the scripture. I don't know how Mr. Obama could sit in this mans church and listen to the garbage spewing from his mouth, unless he also had some of the same views.

The second point, Mr. White attempted to play the race card, however he obviously didn't do his homework very well. He asked the question why so many people were hating on Barack Obama. He answer was that he didn't fit the mold, the mold being, rich, white, and privileged. In his mind Hillary did. Yes Hillary does, but your mold Mr. White is some what off. So far to date, the media has done more negative coverage on Hillary and more positive coverage on Obama. Also, Obama is winning, that would mean, a majority of people like Obama rather than Clinton.

I think that the church should remove Mr. White or the government should remove his non taxed position, since he is obviously preaching a political rather than a spiritual message. People wouldn't and don't care about who Mr. White supports or what ever racially motivated reason propels him to do so. What we do care about is the separation of Church and state. The pulpit is never a place for a pastor to state his political or racial views. I have no problem with a pastor stating moral views, however, out right telling someone to vote a certain way is wrong, no matter what issue you are talking about.

I believe that the pulpit should be used to promote moral issues, but should never tell anyone specifically how to vote. I have heard sermons near voting time that gave moral implications on why or why not to support specific ideas. However, supporting a moral issue that is in line with your doctrine is one thing, but supporting a candidate from the pulpit is another. Unless of course, Mr. Whites doctrines are racial separation and hatred then the sermon follows the doctrine to a tee. Nevertheless, I hope that that is not true, so I continue to stand by the fact that the sermon was not only inappropriate for anyone, especially from a pulpit.

In the sermon Rev. White says that Jesus taught him to love his enemies, and not be reduced to their level of hatred, bigotry and small mindedness. After listening to him blast on everybody from privileged white people, to Jews I must concluded that Mr. White were never reduced, but rather lowered yourself far past their level.

I don't find fault for Mr. Obama getting spiritual guidance from a pastor, but rather the pastor he chose. I guess Mr. Obama's mother never told him that he is the company that he keeps. Mr. Obama asking spiritual advice from someone of Mr. Whites character is comparable to a white candidate asking spiritual advice from a Ku Klux Klan member. In closing, Mr. Obama should be seriously questioned about what kind of person he is to seek out spiritual advice from anyone like Mr. White.
